What can I do if I can't set up the smart plug with Matter?
If you are unable to set up your D-Link Matter-certified smart plug with a Matter-certified ecosystem, please follow the troubleshooting steps below:
- Ensure your mobile device and Matter controller are both connected to the same 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network: Matter devices typically require 2.4GHz for pairing. Avoid using cellular data or switching networks during setup.
- Make sure your ecosystem is up to date: Confirm that both the Matter controller (e.g., Apple HomePod mini, Google Nest Hub) and its companion app are running the latest Matter-compatible firmware/software.
- Check if the Matter device was previously added to another smart home ecosystem.: If so, you'll need to generate a new setup code from the original platform before adding it to another one. See:
“How to share your Smart Plug with another Matter ecosystem” in How can I use my Smart Plug as a Matter smart home device? - Complete the pairing process within 15 minutes after powering on the device.: Matter devices are only in pairing mode for a limited time. If this window expires, simply restart your smart plug to re-enter setup mode.
- Restart your mobile phone and clear the app cache: This may help resolve connectivity or scanning issues during setup.
If none of the above steps resolve the problem, try performing a factory reset on your smart plug and attempt the setup again. Alternatively, you may try using a different mobile device to complete the onboarding process.
