The DCS-942L offers two different types of motion detection:
- Software/Video Motion Detection- Motion detection based on pixel change between frames
- PIR (Passive Infrared Sensor): Motion is detected when an "object" breaks the field which the PIR sensor has determined as the "Normal" thermal state.
Note: In order to configure any type of motion detection, you must log into the Web Interface of your Camera. You can do so by following these steps:
Finding the Cameras IP Address
Note: If you already know the IP address of your DCS-942L, skip to the next section.
Step 1: Launch the Install Wizard for the DCS-942L. (if you do not have it, please visit (
http://eu.mydlink.com/download and download it)
Step 2: Click Next until the wizard searches for your camera
Step 3: When found, record the IP address of the camera you want to configure for recording.
Close the Wizard
Configuring your DCS-942L for "Software/Video" Motion Detection
Step 1: Open your internet browser and type the IP address of your DCS-942L into the address bar
Step 2: When prompted, enter your username and password for the camera (The default username is admin and there is no password)
Step 3: Click on the
Setup Tab and then click
Motion Detection on the left side
Step 4: Click Enable Video Motion
- Draw a box around the area of the frame you want to monitor for motion (Click, hold and drag the mouse around the specific area)
- Note: Multiple areas can be selected
- Specify your sensitivity (Higher sensitivity makes motions easier to be detected. You may need to adjust this setting to calibrate it for the area you are monitoring)

Configuring your DCS-942L for "PIR" Motion Detection
Step 1: Click on the
Setup Tab and then click
Motion Detection on the left side
Step 2: Click Enable PIR
Note: Using PIR enabled motion detection on the whole image. You cannot specify a particular zone.
Click
Save Settings
